Dear Class,
Please look at the site www.desmogblog.com. Leave your comments and questions about the various aspects of the site for us to talk about on Tuesday in class. The blog has a ton of articles about cleaning the environment, along with some statistics about the climate. The blog talks about what action major companies and the government are taking to clean the air. Read some of the articles and look at the overall layout of the website. Come ready to talk about these things in class on Tuesday.
Thanks!

ReplyDeleteWhen I first opened DESMOGBLOG.COM, I was obsessed with the page color and the unique logo. Yellow, white, and black make the entire site clear and comfortable. It is very different from the previous blog. The logo is also consisted of 3 colors. There are six people. Five of them are white and one of them is black with the background of yellow. In my opinion, the black man in the logo stands for DEMOGBLOG.COM which distinguishes itself from any other websites. DESMOGBLOG.COM is a website relates with environmental issues. On the top of the page, it lists top story of today. It is easy to follow and understand.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up a very good point. Bring that up in class on Tuesday when we are discussing! Thanks!
ReplyDeleteOverall, I really like the layout of the blog. The blog uses the colours yellow, black, gray and white as its background, and in my opinion, it makes the site very clear, neat as well as easy for the viewer/reader to navigate and follow. I also like how the blog is up to date and this is evident through the blog's postings of the top stories each day. I also like how the site has tabs explaining what Desmog is all about as well as Desmog's manifest. One the site, you can also find a donation section, a contact us section as well as videos about the environment and climate as a whole.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up some very good points. Please discuss this in class tomorrow with class.
DeleteI have to say that I like this blog! The layout of the blog is attractive to me. The main color of the blog is black, lemon yellow and white. Black makes it professional while yellow emphasis what the designer what us to pay attention to, just like the logo. Also, black and white distinguish the Top Story part and other part of this webpage like advertising and further links, this makes it easy for its readers to find where the stories are located. Between each of the articles posted, there is a bright yellow line to tell the readers, “This is the next story.” My favorite part of this webpage is the further link to the environment protection related book that is located at the top of the webpage. It is not just a simple URL link, it is the cover of the book with the book name on it. The book cover can provide more information that a single URL link. Because I think that book cover is a highly brief summary of the book. A book’s cover can usually tell us the main point or the theme of the book. Just take this book cover for example, it shows a picture of a man who is boating but the water has dried, there is only sand left around the boat. What he can do now is just standing in the boat with quants in his hands, looking around. After saw this picture and book’s name “Climate Cover-up”, everyone can tell that this is a story about environment protection, to be more specific, maybe a book about drought. What’s more, from my own experience, I found that people always prefer to see pictures than words. So i think use the book cover as a further link can better attract the readers’ attention.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first came to this blog, I noticed that the colors were of that of the theme of construction. I found this to be interesting since most construction sites are normally associated with inner city, dirty areas with plenty of non-earth friendly aspects. But when thinking it could represent the rebuilding of the way we live our lives to be more earth friendly. I noticed next that it was the same couple of bloggers that posted most of the articles, so it gives the site credibility that not just anyone can post any random information to the blog. It was possible to click on the person’s biography, of that who wrote the article. This allows the public to see the background these bloggers had, but there was no central link to see who the main contributors to the site were. One could find a link to see whom the site got professional opinions on subjects from and see their credentials. I found that one of those people happened to be a professor at Ohio State, which I found interesting.
ReplyDeleteYou bring up some very good points. I liked that you really examined every aspect of the blog. Bring up some of those thoughts in class tomorrow!
DeleteWhen first opening this page, the first thing that I notice is the color scheme. It catches my attention and actually made me more interested in the page. The next thing I noticed was the colorful logo that was on the page. The logo seems to be working to tell people to stand up for what they believe in and go against what is sometimes the norm. In the logo everyone is just standing their but then there is one person who has his hand up and is being different. With this, it is like they are telling everyone to stand up for themselves. Next, I noticed the large amount of resources that are available on this page. There were links to social media pages as well as links to videos, a research database, media resources and much more. This page has a lot to offer and the color scheme and design helps add to it and grab the reader’s attention even more. The site also had an interesting table and a counter. These were interesting visuals that helped add to the site’s draw and appeal and also gave a quick snap shot of what to expect when simply scanning over the site.
ReplyDeleteI like what you examined about the blog. Make sure to discuss these in class tomorrow!
DeleteThe desmogblog website has an appealing layout and color scheme for its viewers. The black, gray, and orange colors that the website utilizes help make the important material stand out to the viewers. They are very up to date with their articles. Each article gives a paragraph or so from the article to the readers a quick summary and then allows you to read more if you desire. Also, each article has some sort of media image that accompanies it like we have seen in most of the blogs thus far. The website offers the viewers the opportunity to comment on the articles as well as follow them on facebook and twitter and subscribe to their newsletter. I do feel, however, that this website has a little more advertisements throughout the page than most of the previous blogs we have looked at. This isn't necessarily a bad thing. The advertisements do not really distract from the articles, it is just an observation. It is also interesting to read through some of these articles since this is the first environmental blog we have looked at. Also, this blog is not trying to persuade its viewers of its opinion as strongly as the previous blogs. This blogs seems to just state information about its topic. This blog does an effective job of presenting their information.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing I noticed about this blog is the very dull color scheme. The background is a very bland grey. I believe this is signifying the smog in the atmosphere...it chokes up everything and makes it not as pristine as it could be. The logo is very interesting as well. The yellow background pops out at the reader. Inside the yellow, there are six people standing there. However, there is one that is standing up and making himself noticed. This could be saying that even one person can make a difference, and should. Some of the article seem interesting. It is obvious they are appealing to a left wing activist, as some of the article titles blame the republicans right away. It is a very good blog overall, as it is updated, well laid out resource tabs, and easy to navigate. It is very good at portraying their message.
ReplyDeleteDesmogblog.com was actually pretty cool. I know that my group shy'ed away from the environmentalist thing because we thought that it would be kind of repetitive and uninteresting, but this website was anything but. I perticularly enjoyed their logo. It showed five very bland human images commonly found on bathrooms but one that had its fist raised in defiance of something. In this case, it was symbolic of taking a stand on environmentalism. The color scheme is also symbolic. The background is a very dull grey, not unlike the smog that the website protests against.
ReplyDeleteI like what you thought about the blog. Make sure to bring those up in class tomorrow!
DeleteThe first thing that caught my attention was the name of the blog and the color of the title. The name DeSmog suggest that this article is anti smog and the choice to capitalize the "S" also emphasizes what this blogging site will be talking about. It also colors the words smog and blog in yellow to show that this site is trying to bring awareness about global warming. The color choices of yellow and black remind me of a yield sign. This can be further analyzed to discuss that caution is needed to be taken in regards to this global warming crisis. There are videos and pictures that are very relevant tot this articles issues. In addition, the picture in the left corner suggest that they want people to talk an initiative in this worldwide crisis and not just sit and let our world be negatively affected by global warming. In addition the article "New Poll: American Voters Very Concerned About Global Warming Pollution, Support Taxing Dirty Energy" discusses some interesting statistics that many may find disappointing for example "79% support funding more research into renewable energy sources, those who strongly support it fell to 36% from 53% in 2008". Many people are losing interest in this important problem and this blogging site does a great job in conveying the message to save our world and take care of the environment.
ReplyDeleteEveryone has very interesting points! i enjoyed reading all the comments on the colorful layout and the logo used in the blog. You all seem to really tie that in to what the blog is trying to convey. Share these views in class!!!
ReplyDeleteIt is really good to see a blog that does not have that plain backgrounds as former ones. My first impression is that the guys running the blog is really taking things seriously. After going over the whole blog site, I am sure it really is. The people running the blog is actually from a public relations firm, including lawyers, professional security people, and well-known authors. They are aiming at showing the truth, which may be concealed by the government or some giant industries for profits, to the public. Different from the blogs we've seen before, which are usually run by some editors or activism, this blog is more professional and responsible. It does have some fixed authors, who are contributing to the development of the blog. Articles from guests are also welcomed or even high-lighted. I notice that for every article from guests, on the right corner, there is always a figure which is just part of the logo of the whole blog, that is a black man-figure back in the yellow background. I then go back to the logo of the whole blog, finding that the black part shown is just the most catching part of the whole logo. Compared with the other human figures, white and calm. The black figure is like waving his hands and showing angles. I think this design encourages viewers not to be the silent majority, but be the spot instead.
ReplyDeleteThis website has a very good layout to it. It does a good job keeping the color scheme consistent, and also as a top story headline which is a first for the blogs we have discussed in class. The blog was easy to navigate. The five apps with pictures beside them does a good job of letting one know what to expect if their is any confusion. The blog has some note-worthy participants, one that i found was a man named Jim Hoggan who is a law school graduate and the owner of Vancouver PR firm Hoggan & Associates. By clicking on research database you can find a list of people who are involved in PR spin campaigns many of which hold a PhD. giving the site good credibility.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first entered this blog, it immediately captured my attention. The color scheme of the black, white, grey, and yellow really stood out to me along with the logo at the top of the page. There are five white figures in line with a single black one that has his/her hand raised. This makes the single black figure stand out. The reason that I think they did this was to show that they are not afraid to speak up on subjects that have been swept under the rug, such as the topic of pollution. The articles that I read were also pretty interesting and certainly got me interested in what the blog was all about. Overall, I think that this was a very good blog that easily captures the readers attention and is actually interesting at the same time.
ReplyDeleteThis website surely has an interesting logo, and it is better organized as well. The websites from the former groups have a white background, which seems simple and sometimes a little too simple to be a fully developed website. The gray background of this website does not feel dizzy when looking at it, and might be connected to the color of smog itself. The articles within the blog are pretty cool. Some of the articles provide statistics numbers, which enable the audience to have a clear view about how serious the problem actually is.
ReplyDeleteWhen I first opened the de-smog blog, I noticed that the colors were mostly black and gray, with a few words and the logo highlighted in a dull yellow and the articles written on a white background. The black and gray is probably supposed to represent smog and air pollution. The yellow words are useful for attracting the reader to them, because they are easy to see against the gray and black background. For instance, at the top of the page there is a quote that says, “’An expose of planetary scale.’~ James E. Hansen” and it is an advertisement for a book. The logo is also pleasing to the eyes. It is a yellow background with five white shapes of people, and black shape of a person that is clearly constructed differently. IT is made with more straight lines instead of rounded curves, and also seems to have its fist in the air. The one different person is right in the midst of all the other people. The one person that stands out is likely to be representative of the people who wrote the blog. It seems that the one person is standing up for justice, and for what they believe in. There are also words under the logo in white, and they say, “Cleaning the PR pollution that clouds climate science.” I’m not sure what PR pollution is, but the placement of it under the logo is probably also significant in some way.
ReplyDeleteThe desmog blog website is quite interesting, it use the yellow background, noticably a bright color to attract the audience to certain parts of the website. On the other hand, it was the same as most the blog sites with countless stories running down the page. Within the text lies hyperlinks that give more details provided in the passage. At the beginning of the page, it has five white figures and one black figure maybe symbolizing the need for people to stand for whats right. Also it can infer that its always one small problem in world full of problems. Meaning that its the small changes we need to start with first to make a difference.
